Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment
Christmas Oratorio, BWV 248
(Parts I, III, V & VI)
(Soloists will be taken from the choir)
As with all Bach’s major choral works, the Christmas Oratorio is a hugely complex, almost mathematical, display of compositional genius. On a spiritual level, however, Bach’s message is far more vivid. He shows us the whole gamut of human emotion, from the ecstatic timpani fanfare of ‘Jauchzet, frohlocket!’, announcing the coming of Christ the King, to the affectionate alto solo ‘Schließe, mein Herze’, expressing the intimacy of the birth of Jesus.
Platinum Consort, with director Scott Inglis-Kidger and a stellar cast of soloists from within the choir, will be joined by the world-renowned Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment in what is promised to be a most uplifting and life-affirming performance of this great work.
‘The alchemical symbol for platinum is a union of silver and gold and that is the quality of the Consort’s singing, naturally bright even in solemn context, but richly toned and weighty where required.’ Choir & Organ
